Reflections on setting up an Estate Agency

Words by

Our journey so far

I started writing a business journal back in September 2023 on the day I handed in my notice at my previous job. Despite getting the wheels in motion for our business months before, that was the day it felt 100% real for me and I wanted to record my thoughts. Reading my scribbled writing back I was so sure that leaving my job was the right thing to do. And now, almost five months later, I’m certain that setting up Number Twenty Four is the best thing we’ve ever done and I’m so proud of what we have created.

But, as so many people have told us, starting your own business isn’t easy and we’re only in our infancy – our website has only been live for 2 weeks. I’m a big fan of reflection and I wanted to chat to my business partners, Georgia and Dan, about our experience. So, grab a cuppa and join us as we look back at our journey so far.

So, we’ve been working on Number Twenty Four behind the scenes for a while. What’s been the best thing about the process for you?

Georgia: The best thing has been coming up with different ideas along the way about how we are going to run our business our way. Being able to meet clients and customers and feel really excited about the venture has been incredible. I’m so proud of what we have achieved so far and I am looking forward to our future.

Dan: For me, seeing the brand come together and sharing our ideas as a three has been the best part.

Abi: I completely agree. I’ve really enjoyed figuring out who we want to be and what we want to look like in the market. Creating our brand identity with UnitedUs was so much fun too.

What’s been the hardest thing?

Georgia: The hardest thing has been relying on third parties to set up different services and insurances we have to have to run the business.

Dan: Relying on third party companies to get us set up hasn’t been fun!

Abi: I think for me the hardest thing has been making sure all of our policies are right. There’s so much legislation in setting up a business and it’s all a bit overwhelming when you’re starting out.

What are you looking forward to as we continue to grow?

Abi: I’m really excited to see the different types of property we take on and being able to look around them. Although, I’ve already got property envy and it’s just going to make me want to redecorate at home.

Georgia: I’m looking forward to clients coming back to us in years to come and for our name to grow in the city and surrounding areas. I would love for us to be the ‘go to agent’!

Dan: I was going to say the same thing! I can’t wait to continue seeing our name out there and being the ‘go to agent’.

What do you love most about your job?

Georgia: I love doing the job well and efficiently and making the process easy for everyone. I love the trust and commitment people give to us and we give it back. I’m happy every day I wake up and go to sleep!

Dan: For me, it’s all about meeting clients and being able to change the perception of estate agents. I love proving that we’re not all the same.

Abi: The thing I love most about marketing is that it allows me to be both creative and analytical. Now that I’ve thrown property into the mix too, I’ve found my dream job.

What tasks are you glad the other founders are here to do?

Georgia: I’m so glad Abi does our property descriptions, social media and works on our spreadsheets and I’m glad Dan makes the poached eggs for breakfast in the morning!

Dan: Write ups and marketing, I wouldn’t know where to start with it.

Abi: What, I wish Dan could make me poached eggs in the morning! I always knew G and Dan were good at their jobs but it’s been a joy watching them in action. I’m so grateful for their knowledge of the industry.

Whose profile do you think has had the most clicks on the website?

Georgia: Abi – how does she get so many likes on her social posts!

Dan: MINE obviously.

Abi: This is probably a bit unfair because I know the answer. As of right now, Dan is in the lead by one view!

Who makes the best cup of tea?

Georgia: Dan because Abi only has soya or oat milk in her cupboards.

Dan: Well G makes the worst and I haven’t had one of Abis yet so has to be me again…

Abi: No offence G, but I think Dan makes the best cuppa!

Anything else to add?

Georgia: I am just so happy! I couldn’t think of a better team and family to go on this journey with.

Dan: Thank you to everyone for all the support so far and thank you to Abi and G for what we all are creating.

We have had an overwhelming amount of support for Number Twenty Four and we are so grateful for it. Whether you’re just reading this because you’re interested in how we’re getting on or because you’re thinking of selling or buying, thank you – you’re helping us to grow.
