From Brighton to Mallorca; a Number Twenty Four case study

Our first clients

Six months ago, when Number Twenty Four was in its infancy, A and D saw one of our LinkedIn posts and reached out asking if we could help them to sell their home. Three months later, they became the first clients that we managed to get over the line and the sale of their beautiful apartment in the North Laine is one that we will always remember.

A Brighton apartment with heaps of style

Located in the iconic red brick building of Argus Lofts, previously the site of the Evening Argus printworks, this bespoke two-bedroom apartment sparked a lot of interest. Designed by Sir Terence Conran’s renowned architectural practice it remains today a staple building in the North Laine. Once home to a band member of The Kooks, this abode is so much more than a popstar’s pad. Though still adorned with original features, the internal renovations have added functionality to this stylish space.

The real gem of this apartment is its spectacular open plan living/dining room and kitchen. A vaulted ceiling spans the height of this two-storey apartment and the central spiral staircase, which leads to the principal bedroom and en-suite, is a work of art in itself. Old meets new in the design of the property, where the original windows (which have since been double glazed) and exposed brick wall are juxtaposed with the sleek modern kitchen. There’s two spacious bedrooms, a practical office area, and a pantry off the kitchen to top it all off.

In love with Brighton

We asked A and D what attracted them to Argus Lofts in the first place and they said:

“It was a combination of the heritage of the building, being the former printworks of The Argus newspaper, its key location close to everything in the North Laine Conservation Area, and the uniqueness of the interior design, which was one of the late Sir Terence Conran’s projects.”

Despite still loving the apartment and Brighton itself, their decision to sell was prompted by their long-standing dream of relocating to Spain. Having wanted to move since they were in their twenties they finally decided to bite the bullet and make it happen in 2024. They won’t forget their home in Brighton and their favourite memory of being in Argus Lofts is:

“Probably reaching the main open plan lounge area on our first viewing, and its high vaulted ceilings/ brickwork. We were totally bowled over by its charms and decided on the spot that we wanted it! Once we had moved in, hosting dinner parties and events was a real highlight; it is the ultimate entertaining pad!”

Selling a home with Number Twenty Four

The road to sale wasn’t easy and there were some hiccups along the way. We asked A and D about their experience of selling Argus Lofts and told us:

“We’d had a former sale collapse due to the buyer’s mortgage offer being pulled, and had a long period of being back on the market between Sep-Dec, with little interest, so we felt quite deflated. Then Number Twenty Four stepped in and things picked up very quickly! A couple of unexpected twists and turns, bumps in the road within the chain, but the team ensured everything stayed on track, so we ended on the high we needed!”

We asked what advice A and D would give to anyone thinking of selling their home, and they said:

“If your situation/home has any complexities, using agents who are on call to help with their experience and expertise will be essential, as we found out! Allow for as much time as you can, for any unexpected delays.”

A new home in Spain

With such a big move on the horizon, we couldn’t help but be nosey and find out more about where A and D were moving to. Turns out, they found a stunning place to call home.

“We have found a converted shoe factory that has been reimagined by architects, located in a mountain town in the Tramuntana mountains of Mallorca. The property is really quirky with lots of nods to its past while being totally high spec too, and has views over the mountains from the pool area.”

We recently caught up with A and D to check in and see how their move was going and it’s safe to say it’s going pretty well. We only hope Miso the cat loves her new home as much as her owners do.
